Plan to reduce energy consumption

Ashesi University commits to staff, employee, student and community involvement in realizing sustainable development goals for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and energy security in its development and operation. To this end, Ashesi promotes and implements renewable energy and energy efficiency programs addressing climate action, resource use efficiency, and a sustainable lifestyle.

Some of our implementation actions include:

  • Regularly servicing diesel-fired generators that use fossil fuels to optimize and maintain generation efficiency minimizes black emissions and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The installation of a US-based energy efficiency analyzer with weekly monitoring, measurement, and reporting system.
  • Capture and use of biogas (methane) from anaerobic digester plant for cooking at the campus restaurants; which converts methane to carbon dioxide, and replace methane emissions with carbon dioxide with less global warming potential.
  • Student and staff representation on the Campus Sustainability Committee and the Community Relations Committee.
