Women-Mentoring at Ashesi

Ashesi University, renowned for its commitment to fostering gender equality and women's empowerment, has made significant strides in advancing women. Through general and female-specific scholarships and women impactful mentorship programs, such as the Mary E. Sherman Scholarship for women studying Engineering, the Ashesi Academic Mentorship program, and Career Mentorship program, to name a few. Overall, more than 10% of female students at Ashesi participate in the mentoring programs. 26% of the participants in the University’s Academic Mentorship program in 2022 were female students. Approximately 50% of students on scholarship schemes at Ashesi are female e.g., Jim Ovia Scholarship, MasterCard Foundation Scholarship, etc.

The university's commitment to empowering female students in their professional endeavors is reflected in the high participation of female students in the Career Mentorship Program. In 2022, 79 students signed up for Career Mentorship program as mentees, of which 53.8% were female. Other mentoring opportunities for female students include: She’s the First Ashesi, Yielding Accomplished African Women (YAAW), First Year Buddy Up Program, etc.
