The triple helix approach to innovation refers to the collaboration among government, industry, and academia. Ashesi University continues to grow steadily as an important stakeholder in Ghana's policy making inputs. In November 2022, Ashesi University was invited by the Minister of Communications & Digitalisation to participate in the process of formulating a Digital Economy Policy for Ghana. This was part of national discussions on the eTransform Ghana Project under the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation which engaged stakeholders in a series of consultation workshops from November 15th to the 24th, 2022 at the Accra Digital Centre. The Minister solicited the views of key stakeholders, representing Government, the private sector, academia and civil society with a view to developing a shared vision of Ghana's digital future. Some of the sessions concentrated on Digital Government, Digital Infrastructure, Digital Entrepreneurship, Digital Skills and Data and Emerging Technologies. Other sessions also focused on specific key sectors such as Agriculture, Health, Education, Financial Services and Retail. The outcomes from these stakeholder consultations were documented and incorporated into Ghana's Digital Economy Policy and Strategy. Additionally, the government of Ghana, represented by ministries and agencies; the Ghana Chamber of Technology; developing agencies of Israel and Germany; and academia, Ashesi University and the University of Ghana are collaborating to examine how digital innovation can be harnessed to drive Ghana's economic transformation. The Trilateral Cooperation Program was launched officially in 2019 and it will be officially launched in November 2021. The program is under the auspices of the Vice President of Ghana who announced the Digitization Innovation Agenda to drive Ghana’s economy and policies at Ashesi University. Ashesi University’s Provost, Prof. Angela Owusu-Ansah is involved in the ongoing Trilateral Project on Innovation for Development in Ghana - a collaboration between Governments, Industry and Academia, led by the vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This project commenced in 2020 and seeks to drive the digitization and innovation ecosystem of Ghana. As part of this effort, the nation Israel through MASHAV - Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation opened up her innovation ecosystem to a delegation from Ghana in July 2021. As part of the delegation from Ghana to Israel on a study tour on the Innovation ecosystem of Israel, Prof. Angela shared how the visit to Israel could help Ghana achieve the SDG Goal 1 on Poverty. According to the Provost, ‘when this program is launched later in 2022, it will be known as the pillar of innovation in Ghana. Ashesi’s participation on the forefront of innovation around the SDGs and development in general is a reflection of Ashesi’s commitment to innovation and sustainability’.
