Sustainability as an Academic Department’s Collective Research Focus

Ashesi’s Business Administration department’s collective research theme is Integrating Sustainability into Business Education across African Business Schools

The objective of the research is to first investigate the meaning of sustainability as it pertains to the various concentration areas of the department (i.e., Finance and Accounting, Marketing and Strategy, Logistics and Process Management – SDG 12, Organizational Management – SDG 12, Entrepreneurship and Economics – SDG 8). This is important considering the African context and the absence of consensus about the definition of sustainability across different functional areas of business education. With a fuller understanding, students should be able to add value in their workplace or graduate school and Africa and become more efficient and successful in their professional responsibilities. In addition, the department can share their results with other African Business Schools. These findings should contribute to the aspirations of AU Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
